song of the moment - breathe me

song of the moment
breathe me

sia

help, i have done it again

i have been here many times before

hurt myself again today

and, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame

be my friend

hold me, wrap me up

unfold me

i am small

i'm needy

warm me up

and breathe me

ouch i have lost myself again

lost myself and i am nowhere to be found,

yeah i think that i might break

i've lost myself again and i feel unsafe

be my friend

hold me, wrap me up

unfold me

i am small

i'm needy

warm me up

and breathe me

and just for good measure (cuz i love the video on this one)

song of the moment - under the surface

song of the moment
under the surface
marit larsen

it's such a funny sensation to be
so happy that you wanna die
promises always were crazy to me
but never was i so surprised
minutes are longer when we are apart
your presence's more than i can handle
it's come to the point where
i wonder if i could ever be
luckier

when suddenly i'm back at the core
thinking of her who had you before
were you as good
as good as we are
do you remember?

did you love her the way you love me?
is there a chance that there might be
traces of her that you carry
under the surface?

lend me your ears, i would like to confess
i'm doubting that you can be real
by your side wearing a beautiful dress
i celebrate how good it feels

say that you love me, say that it's true
i know that i want to believe you
but somehow silence speaks louder than words
i'm worried she's still on your mind

suddenly i'm back at the core
thinking of her who had you before
were you as good
as good as we are
do you remember?
did you love her the way you love me?
is there a chance that there might be
traces of her that you carry
under the surface?

mmm i know that i'm selfish
i know that it's bad
i know, but it's driving me mad
it's driving me mad

suddenly i'm back at the core
thinking of her who had you before
were you as good
as good as we are
do you remember?

did you love her the way you love me?
is there a chance that there might be
traces of her that you carry
under the surface?

under the surface
under the surface

I'd forgotten how adorable I found this girl (based solely on her voice, because before I saw the video with her and Milow, I had no idea what she looked like), and decided she needed her own post. I would have given Milow his own, but since he's not nearly as buttonish (and that particular song rocks the harmony) he had to share his spotlight. He'll live.

song of the moment - out of my hands

song of the moment
out of my hands

milow (and marit larsen)

i made the call just too late
at the end of may
i just thought i could wait
for one more day
in the time that passed
you went down so fast
you went down so fast

out of my reach, out of my hands
i didn't understand
i would have changed all my plans

an empty house, a setting sun
at 4 a.m.
some battles fought are battles won
but this ain't one of them
one more shadow cast
you went down so fast
you went down so fast

out of my reach, out of my hands
i didn't understand
i would have changed all my plans
i would have changed
out of my reach, out of my hands

now the leaves are turning brown
i watch 'em blow
where the earth pulls them down
i let you go
as your breath unwinds
through the restless pines

out of my reach, out of my hands
i didn't understand
i would have changed all my plans
i would have changed
out of my reach, out of my hands
i didn't understand
i would have changed all my plans
i would have changed

the first version I heard was just milow:

I think I actually like this one better, but I'm a sucker for harmony.

song of the moment - your friend

song of the moment
your friend
save ferris

i don't wanna have to be your friend
i'm so tired of tryin' to be your friend
i don't wanna have to be your friend, no anymore

what is happening my friend?
you see i use the term so loosely these days
seems we're headed towards the end
soon to be parting our ways
cuz' you'll never done a thing for someone else
unless you thought that you could help yourself
and now the day is here when you have found
you finally need the help of someone else
and they won't help

cuz' what you do, you know it's always just for you
so i don't care about you anymore

i don't wanna have to be your friend
i'm so tired of tryin' to be your friend
i don't wanna have to be your friend, no anymore
when it really doesn't matter what i say
cuz' you're never gonna listen to me anyways
well, i don't wanna have to be your friend, no anymore

it seems you've fallen once again
like you've done a thousand times before
and now you need a certain friend, someone you can count on
but i don't wanna be the one who's always
gonna have to make it up to you
and i don't wanna be responsible for all the stupid little
things you say, and things you do

cuz' what you did, it seems you've messed up once again
so i don't care about you anymore

i don't wanna have to be your friend
i'm so tired of tryin' to be your friend
i don't wanna have to be your friend, no anymore
when it really doesn't matter what i say
cuz' you're never gonna listen to me anyways
well, i don't wanna have to be your friend, no anymore

you call me late at night when things are not all right
you need someone to get you through again
you need a helping hand, someone who understands
you're begging and pleading but this time i'm not dealing

cuz' i walked this road with you too many times before
and i realize now that this is not what i want anymore

i don't wanna have to be your friend
i'm so tired of tryin' to be your friend
i don't wanna have to be your friend, no anymore
when it really doesn't matter what i say
cuz' you're never gonna listen to me anyways
well, i don't wanna have to be your friend, no anymore

i don't wanna be your friend
no, i don't wanna be your friend

I fucking love this song! There was a time in college when I just had this on loop and would sing it at the top of my lungs (I don’t think my dormmates appreciated me too much).

As I have in years past, I seem to find myself harboring complete pissification towards a few of my “friends.” I won’t bother telling them this, because it won’t help anything, just annoy them. What’s the point of bringing up stuff when they’re perfect and beyond reproach? If anything needs changing, I’m sure it’s me.
Yes, in case you were wondering, I am speaking from experience.

I have bad taste in friends.

I think I’m done.

Oh, no, wait, everyone point and laugh at my friend (actual friend, not one that that this post is directed toward) cuz she’s dancing.
She shouldn’t dance.

She’s still dancing.

musical must-see of the moment

so i was talking to my friend, and found out that he had not seen the musical episode of scrubs. i was shocked and appalled, and realized that this needed to be immediately remedied. post haste (you know, i'm not exactly sure what that means, but i like the way it sounds) i located the desired clips on youtube and educated his ass.
i truly believe his life is better, now, for it.
thanks to me.
so i've made the world a better place in my own small way.
(yes, i've been drinking, what's your point?)

song of the moment - be here now

song of the moment
be here now
ray lamontagne

don't let your mind get weary and confused
your will be still, don't try
don't let your heart get heavy child
inside you there's a strength that lies

don't let your soul get lonely child
it's only time, it will go by
don't look for love in faces, places
it's in you, that's where you'll find kindness

be here now, here now
be here now, here now

don't lose your faith in me
and i will try not to lose faith in you
don't put your trust in walls
'cause walls will only crush you when they fall

be here now, here now
be here now, here now

song of the moment - modern love

song of the moment
modern love
last town chorus
(david bowie cover)

i catch a paper boy
but things don't really change
i'm standing in the rain
but i never wave bye-bye

but i try, i try

there's no sign of life
it's just the power to charm
i'm lying in the rain
but i never wave bye-bye

but i try, i try

never gonna fall for modern love
it walks beside me
it walks on by
it gets me to the church on time

church on time terrifies me
it makes me party
it puts my faith in god and man

god and man, no confessions
no religion
i don't believe in modern love

it's not really work
it's just the power to charm
still lying in the rain
but i never wave bye bye

but i try, i try

never gonna fall for modern love
it walks beside me
it walks on by
it gets me to the church on time

church on time terrifies me
it makes me party
it puts my faith in god and man

god and man, no confessions
no religion
i don't believe in modern love
----

I heard this cover on the butr podcast a while back, and it's been stuck in my head for like a month. Problem was, I couldn't remember how it went. The only words I could remember were "god and man" and "church on time," but I was pretty sure I had made up the church on time part (cuz my fair lady kept popping into my head).
So for the past hour I've been poring through lyrics and the butr website, and SUCCESS IS MINE!!!

It's a David Bowie cover, and seeing as how I've never actually heard the original, I'm gonna look it up now, for the sole purpose of posting it.
Feel special.

hmmm
I don't like it

happy music of the moment - mika

i'm in a bad mood
thanks to our nursing agency (which basically sucks donkey balls), i'm having a very bad day
unfortunately, drinking isn't an option (i'm stuck doing their job, and effective nursing doesn't involve inebriation)
(it also doesn't involve having your head up your ass, but try telling the agency that)

since massive amounts of coffee has done all it can, and i'm still pissy, i seek another solution

MIKA TO THE RESCUE!!!

he makes me smile, so i've decided to inundate you with the energy explosion that is Mika

so with no further ado, let the cheering up of me begin!

yes, i realize i already put this song, but it's a different video, and i like that you can get a taste of what he's like live without the crappy sound

the second part of this one's a bit cheesified, but i still like it

----
If you like his music, you really must see him live, there's no comparison. I've only seen him once, but he came out in a fuckin astronaut suit (then proceeded to strip down to boxers).
I would love to be a back-up singer for him. That has gotta be a sweet gig. How can you not have fun with a man like that?

Well, I hope you're in a better mood than you were at the beginning of this post (or than I was), cuz I am over the moon
or was that the cow
are you calling me fat?!

don't mind the weird girl

did i mention i'm sleep deprived?

ooh, soda!

song of the moment - king of anything

song of the moment
sara bareilles
king of anything

oh (oh oh oh)
oh (oh oh oh)
oh (oh oh oh)
oh (oh oh oh)

keep drinkin' coffee
stare me down across the table
while i look outside

so many things i'd say if only i were able
but i just keep quiet
and count the cars that pass by

you've got opinions, man
we're all entitled to 'em
but i never asked

so let me thank you for your time
and try to not waste any more of mine
get out of here fast

i hate to break it you babe
but i'm not drowning
there's no one here to save

who cares if you disagree
you are not me
who made you king of anything
so you dare tell me who to be
who died
and made you king of anything

oh (oh oh oh)
oh (oh oh oh)
oh (oh oh oh)
oh (oh oh oh)

you sound so innocent
all full of good intent
you swear you know best

but you expect me to
jump up on board with you
ride off into your delusional sunset

i’m not the one who's lost
with no direction oh
but you won't ever see

you're so busy makin' maps
with my name on them in all caps
you got the talkin' down just not the listening

and who cares if you disagree
you are not me
who made you king of anything
so you dare tell me who to be
who died
and made you king of anything

all my life
i've tried
to make everybody happy while I
just hurt
and hide
waitin' for someone to tell me it's my turn
to decide

oh (oh oh oh)
oh (oh oh oh)
oh (oh oh oh)
oh (oh oh oh)

who cares if you disagree
you are not me
who made you king of anything
so you dare tell me who to be
who died
and made you king of anything

who cares if you disagree
you are not me
who made you king of anything
so you dare tell me who to be
who died
and made you king of anything

let me hold your crown, babe
oh oh
ah

My friend Shana sent this to me. Does she know how I think or what?

This song hit the nail on the head!
It's everything I've wanted to say to a certain few in my past, but just didn't have the power of articulation. (Pissed me is far from articulate.)
So all I need to do is take this song back in time, and let it speak for me. That could work, right?

song of the moment - the wind

song of the moment
the wind
cat stevens (yusuf islam)

i listen to the wind
to the wind of my soul
where i'll end up well i think,
only god really knows
i've sat upon the setting sun
but never, never never never
i never wanted water once
no, never, never, never

i listen to my words but
they fall far below
i let my music take me where
my heart wants to go
i swam upon the devil's lake
but never, never never never
i'll never make the same mistake
no, never, never, never

song of the moment - please don't leave me

song of the moment
please don’t leave me
pink

da da da da, da da da da
da da da da-da da

i don't know if i can yell any louder
how many time have i kicked you outta here?
or said something insulting?
da da da da-da
i can be so mean when i wanna be
i am capable of really anything
i can cut you into pieces
when my heart is....broken

da da da-da da
please don't leave me
please don't leave me
i always say how i don't need you
but it's always gonna come right back to this
please, don't leave me

how did i become so obnoxious?
what is it with you that makes me act like this?
i've never been this nasty
can't you tell that this is all just a contest?
the one that wins will be the one that hits the hardest
but baby i don't mean it
i mean it, i promise

da da da-da da
please don't leave me
da da da-da da
please don't leave me
da da da-da da
i always say how i don't need you
but it's always gonna come right back to this
please, don't leave me

i forgot to say out loud how beautiful you really are to me
i can't be without, you're my perfect little punching bag
and i need you, i'm sorry.

da da da da, da da da da
da da da da-da da
please, please don't leave me

baby please don't leave me
no, don't leave me
please don't leave me no no no
you say i don't need you but it's always gonna come right back,
it's gonna come right back to this.
please, don't leave me.
no.
no, don't leave me
please don't leave me, oh no no no.
i always say how i don't need you
but it's always gonna come right back to this
please, please don't leave me

please, please don't leave me

Better vocals in the official music video, obviously, but that one disturbs the fuck out of me, down to my very core (yes, somehow fuck has managed to be disturbed out of my core - come to think of it, i'm not actually sure how it got all the way down there in the first place), especially the dolls, what the fuck was up with the dolls?!!!! So I used to just put the video on, and either scroll down, or minimize the window, cuz the song kicks ass, but the video scares me (I'm weird about dolls and face paint).

Here's another one I like

I heard her say once in an interview that pain was her fuel (or motivation, or something) and that she was useless when she was happy. I dunno about useless, but she's a fuckin genius when she's sad. I just get blithering, or laconic, or a strange mixture of the two (it's not pretty) (or all that coherent).

song of the moment - fake plastic trees

song of the moment
fake plastic trees
radiohead

(the video in the link is better than the one posted, but it couldn't be embedded, so i had to make due - deal with it)

her green plastic watering can
for her fake chinese rubber plant
in the fake plastic earth
that she bought from a rubber man
in a town full of rubber plans
to get rid of itself
it wears her out, it wears her out
it wears her out, it wears her out

she lives with a broken man
a cracked polystyrene man
who just crumbles and burns
he used to do surgery
for girls in the eighties
but gravity always wins
and it wears him out, it wears him out
it wears him out, it wears...

she looks like the real thing
she tastes like the real thing
my fake plastic love
but i can't help the feeling
i could blow through the ceiling
if i just turn and run
and it wears me out, it wears me out
it wears me out, it wears me out

if i could be who you wanted
if i could be who you wanted
all the time, all the time

song of the moment - the wrestler

song of the moment
the wrestler
bruce springsteen

two, three, four

have you ever seen a one trick pony in the field so happy and free
if you've ever seen a one trick pony then you've seen me
have you ever seen a one legged dog makin' his way down the street
if you've ever seen a one legged dog then you've seen me

(then you've seen me) i come and stand at every door
(then you've seen me) i always leave with less than i had before
(then you've seen me) bet i can make you smile when the blood it hits the floor
tell me friend can you ask for anything more
tell me can you ask for anything more

have you ever seen a scarecrow filled with nothing but dust and weeds
if you've ever seen that scarecrow then you've seen me
have you ever seen a one armed man punchin' at nothing but the breeze
if you've ever seen a one armed man then you've seen me

(then you've seen me) i come and stand at every door
(then you've seen me) i always leave with less than i had before
(then you've seen me) bet i can make you smile when the blood it hits the floor
tell me friend can you ask for anything more
tell me can you ask for anything more

these things that have comforted me i drive away (anything more)
this place that is my home i cannot stay (anything more)
my only faith is in the broken bones and bruises i display

have you ever seen a one legged man tryin' to dance his way free
if you've ever seen a one legged man then you've seen me

Bet I can make you smile when the blood it hits the floor…

song of the moment - i want to hold your hand (prudence's version)

song of the moment
i want to hold your hand (prudence’s version from across the universe)
by the beatles, or prudence, or t.v. carpio, take your pick

Okay, I know I usually try to put the original versions first, then point out which cover is my favorite, but I don’t wanna. So deal with it.

yeah, i´ll tell you something
i think you'll understand
when i say that something
i wanna hold your hand
i wanna hold your hand
i wanna hold your hand

oh, please, say to me
you'll let me be your man
and please, say to me

you'll let me hold your hand
now let me hold your hand
i wanna hold your hand

and when i touch you i feel happy, inside
it's such a feeling
that my love
i can't hide
i can't hide
i can't hide

yeah you, got that something
i think you'll understand
when I feel that something
i wanna hold your hand
i wanna hold your hand
i wanna hold your hand

And in case any of you happen to live under a rock and think The Beatles are bugs or cars, here’s the original
(Oh, and also, please find someone to smack you upside the head)

Notice the bass line?
Respect

---

Yes, I know, The Beatles are classic icons never to be replaced, but there’s something about the vulnerability portrayed in the Prudence's version that just gets me (I’m a sucker for musical vulnerability).

I don’t know how/why I didn’t see the movie Across the Universe sooner, but I’m glad I got it when I did.
Obviously, if you’re a hard core Beatles fan (and a bit of a purist), this won’t be your cup of tea, but I enjoyed it (strangely, the second time more than the first - the third was to camo the neighbors’ fighting so I could sleep, therefore didn’t count, so we’ll see if the fourth time is even better than the second) . And that’s all I have to say about that. To each their own, and all that. Crap, I forgot what my point was. Did I have one? Ooh skittles!

If you like the movie but aren't that familiar with the Beatles, go listen to their music, the jokes are a lot funnier (sad to say, I didn't catch Sadie's killing grandma with a hammer crack the first time through).

This version made me want to remake songs. Don’t you ever hear a song and there’s something about it that grabs you, but also something about it that’s just off? I now have to urge to find those songs and remake them to fit me, personally (cuz, you know, the world revolves around me). I do tend to take music rather personally. Most people don’t get it. The one person that did get it turned out to be a raving lunatic. What does that say about me?

But I digress, it’s what I do. Deal with it.

Okay, I don’t even know what I’m talking about anymore, so I’m just gonna stop, and possibly go to sleep (but more likely just lay in bed wondering why I’m not sleeping - couldn’t possibly be the monster I had before singing tonight, or the three cappuccinos I had at dinner, noooo, silly me, of course its none of those).

Peace, coffee and an absence of screaming children
:-)

PS
In answer to the shampoo question in the apple comment (it makes sense, and if it doesn’t, I’m probably not talking to you), that day (and coincidentally, today also) my hair smelled like the conditioner that comes with the natural instincts hair dye (I just reconditioned) (oh, and my hair is now burgundy, Monday it was blonde, and April it was black).
Although if you’re looking for a new shampoo, I’ve been using suave professionals humectant for a couple months (bought the big family size bottle a week before I chopped 13(+) inches off my hair, so it’s lasted quite a while), and have found it rather pleasing, olfactorily and otherwise.

Now I think I’ll take your advice and go listen to apple again, after I scratch my left leg, because it itches, and I think that should be handled with slightly more immediacy.

song of the moment - girl anachronism

song of the moment
girl anachronism
by the dresden dolls

you can tell
from the scars on my arms
and cracks in my hips
and the dents in my car
and the blisters on my lips
that i'm not the carefullest of girls

you can tell
from the glass on the floor
and the strings that're breaking
and i keep on breaking more
and it looks like i am shaking
but it's just the temperature
and then again
if it were any colder i could disengage
if i were any older i could act my age
but i dont think that youd believe me
it's
not
the
way
i'm
meant
to
be
it's just the way the operation made me

and you can tell
from the state of my room
that they let me out too soon
and the pills that i ate
came a couple years too late
and ive got some issues to work through
there i go again
pretending to be you
make-believing
that i have a soul beneath the surface
trying to convince you
it was accidentally on purpose

i am not so serious
this passion is a plagiarism
i might join your century
but only on a rare occasion
i was taken out
before the labor pains set in and now
behold the world's worst accident
i am the girl anachronism

and you can tell
by the red in my eyes
and the bruises on my thighs
and the knots in my hair
and the bathtub full of flies
that i'm not right now at all
there i go again
pretending that i'll fall
don't call the doctors
cause they've seen it all before
they'll say just
let
her
crash
and
burn
she'll learn
the attention just encourages her

and you can tell
from the full-body cast
that i'm sorry that i asked
though you did everything you could
(like any decent person would)
but i might be catching so don't touch
you'll start believing you're immune to gravity and stuff
don't get me wet
because the bandages will all come off

and you can tell
from the smoke at the stake
that the current state is critical
well it is the little things, for instance:
in the time it takes to break it she can make up ten excuses:
please excuse her for the day, its just the way the medication makes her...

i dont necessarily believe there is a cure for this
so i might join your century but only as a doubtful guest
i was too precarious removed as a caesarian
behold the worlds worst accident
I AM THE GIRL ANACHRONISM

I fucking love them!
Yeah, that pretty much covers it.
They are complete freaks (they’d probably be the first to admit it), and I fucking love them!

One of my friends at work sent me a link for Coin-Operated Boy (he said that’s what I needed since I didn’t trust the real ones). The face paint threw me a bit at first, but I must say, I was intrigued. They became my next obsessive phase. youtube and Google to the rescue!
Sing is one of my favorites, but I was listening yesterday and decided I needed to post this one.

I want Brian’s hat.
And I kinda wanna be Amanda.

Here's the alternate cut of sing.
I like the first version better, but the alternate doesn't censor "you mother fucker, you'll sing some day," and you really must respect that.
You must, because I say you must.
or don't, it's not really my call

song of the moment - oh wait, never mind

i've decided to delete the song that was previously in this spot because the boy who sent it to me was insane.
seriously.
but i like the number 23, so i'm just gonna leave something in the march 23 slot.
(hey, i never said i was altogether with it, but at least i'm not completely delusional and suggesting that people kill themselves!)
seriously! he suggested i kill myself (even gave weapon advice and proper deployment angle) because i didn't agree with him
(okay, so it was probably more because i told him he needed professional help, but was i wrong? really?)

boys!
and people wonder why i don't trust them!

website of the moment - butr

website of the moment
bands under the radar
hosted by kami knake

Kami Knake hosts a podcast for music/bands flying under the radar (hence the title - see the cleverness?). I subscribe to her podcast on itunes. I used to have a job that consisted largely of scanning and filing. Her podcast saved my sanity (or, it would have if I had had any to begin with).

While I don’t like every single band/artist she features (but that really would be asking a bit much, wouldn’t it?) I have discovered several bands that I have come to love that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise discovered.

Before moving back to Nashville, Kami used to book bands for the Viper Room in Los Angeles. Personally, I think her selections have veered slightly more country since moving out of LA, but that could be just my imagination. I do have a rather active imagination.

She includes links so you can purchase music from all the artists featured.

oh yeah, almost forgot

happy saint patrick's day!
i wish prodigious drunkenness and irish luck to all, even the un-irish

i have a shirt that says "i'm not irish, but you can kiss me anyway"
i was gonna wear it today, but then remembered i'm gonna be in the proximity of prepubescents
i didn't want them to take it literally

words of advice if you're gonna be near immaturity:
wear green (orange is also appropriate, but then you'd have to explain it),
or prepare to be pinched,
or get your bitch-slappin hand ready

randomness of the moment

i love mountain dew!!!

"what does this have to do with music?" you may ask
excellent question
all insightful and relevant and shit
to which i would respond, "SHUT UP, IT'S MY BLOG AND I'LL POST WHATEVER I WANT!!!"

now, if you'll excuse me (which you will), i now need to finish the can i just opened (the one that inspired me to proclaim my love), while whispering sweet nothings into its imaginary ear

song of the moment - apple

song of the moment
apple
by cat jahnke

**UPDATED**

i picked an apple for you to say
i love you, need you, want you to stay
i placed it up high on my shelf for a day
i longed for a bite as it rotted away

it goes, it goes, it just goes to shows
that anything can happen
oh woes, woes, pile up to your nose
cuz good enough just isn't good enough
badum pomme pomme pomme

a brush and a comb and a mirror and blade
a horse and a cart and a river and glade
every note, every voice, every song ever played
all collected and lovingly at your feet laid

it goes, it goes, it just goes to shows
that anything can happen
woes, woes, hop til you knows
cuz good enough just isn't good enough
badum pomme pomme pomme

i'll kiss your closed eyes so the love will not show
i'll bask in your radiance that dulls the sun's glow
i'll sing so softly that no air will blow
and no one will know
and no one will know

it goes, it goes, it just goes to shows
that anything can happen
woes, woes, hop til you knows
cuz good enough just isn't good enough
badum pomme pomme pomme

if you would but ask i could turn myself blue
by pausing the rhythm that pushes blood through
or i'd stoke up the fire blush a blazing red hue
for i gave you my heart and it pulses for you

it goes, it goes, it just goes to shows
that anything can happen
woes, woes, hop til you knows
cuz good enough just isn't good enough
badum pomme pomme pomme

*Thanks, Darren, for correcting the lyrics (check the comments for that explanation, people).
I'm even more impressed with this song, now.*

---
Okay, I had to search high and low to even find this link. Who knew it would be this hard to find an awesome song? WTF?! And the lyrics? Forget about it! I finally had to give up and just type the damn things out myself, so if there are any errors, please let me know, cuz this is the best my brain could do at one in the morning. There’s only so much playing/pausing/rewinding a girl can take before she has the urge to defenestrate her computer, or any handy throwable object.

The chorus of this song was the theme song for the web comedy show Ctrl. I heard it, and, as often happens with me, became obsessed. So my obsession becomes your good fortune and education in music. Because you care. You do!!! I’ve decided you care, so don’t argue with me! It’s just so fun and bouncy, although, after listening to it like eleven times in a row just now, I think I might need to take a break from it for a bit before I can enjoy it again. Some chocolate and an episode of Firefly should do the trick.

My hair smells good. Just thought I'd share.

I’ll try to find a better link, but in the meantime, let me know if either one of those cease being viable.

song of the moment - sixteen military wives

song of the moment
sixteen military wives
by the decemberists

sixteen military wives
thirty-two softly focused brightly colored eyes
staring at the natural tan
of thirty-two gently clenching wrinkled little hands
seventeen company men
out of which only twelve will make it back again
sergeant sends a letter to five
military wives, whose tears drip down through ten little eyes

cheer them on to their rivals
cause america can, and america can't say no
and america does, if america says it's so
it's so!

and the anchorperson on tv goes...
la de da de da

fifteen celebrity minds
leading their fifteen sordid wretched checkered lives
will they find the solution in time
using their fifteen pristine moderate liberal minds?

eighteen academy chairs
out of which only seven really even care
doling out the garland to five
celebrity minds, they're humbly taken by surprise

cheer them on to their rivals
cause america can, and america can't say no
and america does, if america says it's so
it's so!

and the anchorperson on tv goes...
la de da de da de-dadedade-da
la de da de da de-dadedade-da

fourteen cannibal kings
wondering blithely what the dinner bell will bring
fifteen celebrity minds
served on a leafy bed of sixteen military wives

cheer them on to their rivals
cause america can, and america can't say no
and america does, if america says it's so
it's so!

and the anchorperson on tv goes...
la de da de da de-dadedade-da
la de da de da de-dadedade-da
la de da de da de-dadedade-da-dedadeda-de de dadede-daaaaa

---
I had to watch it through a couple times at first, cuz I kept getting distracted by singing along to read the captions. The story doesn’t really make sense if you don’t read the captions. Actually, no, the story doesn’t really exist without the captions.
One of my favorite parts is the first time it says “and the anchorperson on tv goes La de da de da” and the little reporter dude looks at the camera and mouths La de da de da. Plus, I like his moustache, it makes me giggle inside my head.
Yes I’m a dork.
I readily admit it, and I’m totally okay with the fact.

Some of their music is quite morbid, and sometimes downright disturbing, but I like Colin’s sound. Something real about it.

Well, I don’t have the brain capacity at the moment to try find anything clever to write, so I’m gonna post this, and finish my coffee, which is currently looking at me sadly, as if wondering what it has done to make me neglect it so.
Don’t worry, baby, I’m coming. It’s not your fault I’m easily distractible.

Remember: “if America says it’s so, it’s so!”
(so if the links don't work, it's only cuz America deemed it so - let your congressman know)

musicalgeniusness of the moment - dr. horrible

musicalgeniusness of the moment
dr. horrible’s sing-along-blog
created by joss whedon

It used to be available on hulu, but it looks like they took it off. Personally, I’d recommend buying it, because it really is that good, but in the mean time, I found that some unbelievably thoughtful person posted it on you tube.

(The evil laugh at the beginning of act 1 is one of my ringtones.)

Okay, so I can’t even begin to explain my love for Joss Whedon. The man’s a genius. I just want to crawl inside his brain and think his thoughts. Wow, that sounded a lot less creepy in my head.

He’s the brain behind such creations as Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse… The man’s unstoppable. His wit is unparalleled. It’s pithy and irreverent, intelligent and thought-provoking, goofy and assbackward. His work tends to include inside jokes that make the people who catch them feel special and self-important (or maybe that’s just me). I love watching episode commentary by him.

When I first discovered this, I was kind of obsessed. I would watch it multiple times in a day. As soon as it was available, I bought all three acts and the soundtrack from itunes, put it on my ipod and would walk around work singing Brand New Day (it was okay, because my co-workers already knew I was weird).

The main characters in the masterpiece are portrayed by Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day and Nathan Fillion.
Neil Patrick Harris, I’m assuming you recognize from Doogie Howser, How I Met Your Mother, the Harold and Kumar escapades, and countless other productions.
Felicia Day was on a season of Buffy, guest appearances all over the place, and writes and stars in the comedic web show The Guild.
Nathan Fillion first won a place in my heart as Captain Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly. You might also recognize him as the whiny ass bitch in Saving Private Ryan, or as the “ruggedly handsome” author/police consultant in Castle.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go eat fruit snacks.

If the links don't work, then there must be a problem.
True story.

song of the moment - no children

song of the moment
no children
by the mountain goats

i hope that our few remaining friends
give up on trying to save us
i hope we come up with a failsafe plot
to piss off the dumb few that forgave us
i hope the fences we mended
fall down beneath their own weight
and i hope we hang on past the last exit
i hope it's already too late
and i hope the junkyard a few blocks from here
someday burns down
and i hope the rising black smoke carries me far away
and i never come back to this town
again in my life
i hope i lie
and tell everyone you were a good wife
and hope you die
i hope we both die

i hope i cut myself shaving tomorrow
i hope it bleeds all day long
our friends say it's darkest before the sun rises
we're pretty sure they're all wrong
i hope it stays dark forever
i hope the worst isn't over
and i hope you blink before i do
yeah i hope i never get sober
and i hope when you think of me years down the line
you can't find one good thing to say
and i'd hope that if i found the strength to walk out
you'd stay the hell out of my way
i am drowning
there is no sign of land
you are coming down with me
hand in unlovable hand
and i hope you die
i hope we both die

---

I can’t remember where I first heard this song. The more I try to remember, the more frustrated I get, and the more frustrated I get, the more my brain refuses to work.
Oh well, that’s beside the point. The fact of the matter is, I discovered the song somehow, and it made me smile.
It kind of neatly wraps up my view of how things are in an upbeat little package just under three minutes.

I hope your sardonic side gets as much pleasure from this song as mine does.

Questions? Comments? Concerns? Amusing anecdotes?

song of the moment - sticks and stones

A little change of pace

song of the moment
sticks and stones
by the pierces

hey domino,
i am stopping you from falling
1-2-3 don’t you dare go down
hey waterfall,
oh can you hear me calling?
3-2-1 don’t you dare touch the ground

i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want

sticks and stones will break your bones
and leave them lying in the mud
but you’ll be scared when we’re alone
like i might suck your blood
and i could tell you a witch’s spell
but it just might blow your top
and you start to run just as i’m having fun
it's awfully hard to stop
it's awfully hard to stop

sun in the sky,
i ain’t stopping you from burning
all we need is stars and moon
clock on the wall,
i will keep your hands from turning
or this night will end too soon

i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want

sticks and stones will break your bones
and leave them lying in the mud
but you’ll be scared when we’re alone
like i might suck your blood
and i could tell you a witch’s spell
but it just might blow your top
and you start to run just as i’m having fun
it’s awfully hard to stop
it's awfully hard to stop
it’s just too hard to stop

ooooh
hey lover boy,
oh now do you believe me?
that’s not all that i can do
sit back down,
i’m afraid we won’t be leaving
can't undo my spell on you

i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want
i’m the one you want

sticks and stones will break your bones
and leave them lying in the mud
but you’ll be scared when we’re alone
like i might suck your blood
and i could tell you a witch’s spell
but you just might blow your top
and you start to run just as i’m having fun
it’s awfully hard to stop

sticks and stones will break your bones
and leave them lying in the mud
but you’ll be scared when we’re alone
like i might suck your blood
and i could tell you a witch’s spell
but it just might blow your top
and you start to run just as i’m having fun
it’s awfully hard to stop
it's awfully hard to stop
it’s just too hard to stop
i don’t think i can stop

I don’t really like the music video, it makes my brain dizzy, but to each their own.

They definitely have the whole seductress vibe thing working for them. It's a little too Pussycat Dolls for my taste (not that there's anything wrong with the Pussycat Dolls, their lead singer kicks so much ass it's not even funny, and I happen to love their version of Sway - crap, I forgot what my point was), but still worth a listen, in my opinion.

Ooh, look!
Coffee!

song of the moment - hallelujah

song of the moment
hallelujah
originally by leonard cohen

This is one of the most covered songs. And I gotta say, I love most of them.

Leonard Cohen - original

(does anybody else think his voice is creepy? makes me wanna clean my room so i can hide under the bed. i can't decide if it’s the off-keyageness that’s throwing me, or the speak/singing)

now i've heard there was a secret chord
that david played, and it pleased the lord
but you don't really care for music, do you?
it goes like this
the fourth, the fifth
the minor fall, the major lift
the baffled king composing hallelujah

hallelujah, hallelujah
hallelujah, hallelujah

your faith was strong but you needed proof
you saw her bathing on the roof
her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
she tied you
to a kitchen chair
she broke your throne, and she cut your hair
and from your lips she drew the hallelujah

hallelujah, hallelujah
hallelujah, hallelujah

you say took the name in vain
i don't even know the name
but if i did, well really, what's it to you?
there's a blaze of light
in every word
it doesn't matter which you heard
the holy or the broken hallelujah

hallelujah, hallelujah
hallelujah, hallelujah

i did my best, it wasn't much
i couldn't feel, so i tried to touch
i've told the truth, i didn't come to fool you
and even though
it all went wrong
i'll stand before the lord of song
with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah

hallelujah, hallelujah
hallelujah, hallelujah…

---
You might need to take a break between renditions, or may get hallelujahed out.
I didn’t while I was finding all the links, but I’m rather odd.

A lot of the versions have slight variations of lyrics, and my ass is too lazy to look up lyrics for every single version
Sorry (and by “sorry” I actually mean “tough”)

Jeff Buckley - most well known cover

Some of my favorites:

Imogen Heap

If the links don't work, well honestly, I don't really care, but let me know anyway, cuz I might care tomorrow.

bleh

i don't like the number five.
we have irreconcilable differences.
i'm slowly getting over my issues with the letter S, but i've reached an impasse with five.
it has an attitude problem,
and a severe superiority complex.
that's just the way it is.
the end.

song of the moment - black orchid

speaking of raw and melancholy…

song of the moment
black orchid
by blue october

have you ever been so lonely
there’s no one there to hold?
just pull me in or disown me
and then climb inside
my arms are open wide
have a look inside

it is not that i am scared to learn
just why i'm empty inside
just hold my hand and show some concern
if i live or die
my eyes are open wide
help me look inside

singin…

i hear the water drip from the faucet
it's sweetly falling in tune, who knew
i'm gently closing the closet
i fall to the floor
and crawl to my room
the thought of ending it soon...
just let me sleep in my room

hear me cry!
cry!
cry!

i hear a knock at the front door
don't come in!
i try to look at you
but i can't stop shaking
leave me alone, just go away
mother i'm so scared
i’m so scared

an empty bed but all of my sheets are gone
they're wrapped around me and you
all is quiet but the drop of my gun
cause want to belong...
to someone...
but maybe life's not for everyone

---

I used to put this on repeat on my ipod, and just sit in my car listening with my eyes closed.
Justin (lead singer) has this way of crawling inside my head and saying everything I feel but can’t express. It’s almost creepy. The first time I heard Hate Me on the radio I thought it was about me (yes, I am that egocentric - plus I had a rather unstable and obsessive ex who would be the type to go so far as to put a song on the radio), until it mentioned blue eyes. I don’t have blue eyes. I’ve had blue hair, but not blue eyes.

I find their music comforting. I’m not the only one who feels these things. Listening to them, for me, is like a way of commiserating without actually having to deal with anybody. I don’t really like talking to people about how I feel. Mostly cuz I don’t really like people, but also I think no one will understand. Sometimes its more therapeutic to just sit in my room, listen to music and cry.
If you ever need good crying music, these guys usually do the trick.

I will undoubtedly be posting more songs by them, but this, being my favorite, had to come first.

If the links don’t work, pat them on the head and try again. If they still don’t work, let me know.

song of the moment - i can feel a hot one

song of the moment
i can feel a hot one
by manchester orchestra

i could feel a hot one taking me down
for a moment, i could feel the force
veiny to the point of tears
and you were holding on to make a point
what's the point?

i am but a clean man, stable and alone man
make it so i won't have to try
the faces always stay the same
so i'll face the fact that i'm just fine
i said that i'm just fine

i remember, head down
after you had found out
manna is a hell of a drug
and i need a little more, i think
because enough is never quite enough
what's enough?

i took it like a grown man crying on the pavement
hoping you would show your face
but i haven't heard a thing you've said
in at least a couple hundred days
what'd you say?

i was in the front seat, shaking it out
and i was asking if you felt all right
i never want to hear the truth
i want to hear your voice, it sounded fine
my voice is sounding fine

i could feel my heartbeat taking me down
and for the moment, i would sleep all right
veiny with a selfish fear
to keep me up another restless night
another restless night

the blood was dry, it was sober
the feeling of audible cracks
and i could tell it was over
from the curtains that hung from your neck

and i realized that then you were perfect
with my teeth ripping out of my head
and it looked like a painting i once knew
back when my thoughts weren't entirely intact

so i prayed for what i thought were angels
ended up being ambulances
and the Lord showed me dreams of my daughter
she was crying inside your stomach

and i felt love again

---

I love the feel of this song. To me, it sounds like raw emotion, like he's singing straight honesty.
I’m a sucker for the raw melancholy types.
I wish I could express myself like that.

The first time I heard this song was on an episode of Cupid (a short running show on abc, that I loved, and want to come back - you can watch it on hulu if you’re interested).
It was in the last six minutes of the second episode, and the only part that was played was: “i remember, head down after you had found out manna is a hell of a drug. and i need a little more, i think because enough is never quite enough. what's enough?”
I had to know what it was. I do that, I’ll hear a song, or part of a song on a show, and I’ll just need to know what it is. Grey’s Anatomy has a lot of good music, in my opinion. I’m over the storyline, but I might keep watching it just to see what music they play.

But I digress, it’s what I do.

What was I saying?

Oh, right (just reread), heard the line, looked it up, found the song, loved it.
Hmm, maybe that was the end of the story, cuz I’m not sure what comes next.
Oh well, on to my next irrelevant point…

I’m a very visual person, so when I listen to music, I picture things (I say that as if I’m the only one who does that). I just saw their official music video today, but for some reason, I wanted the first listen, for those of you who hadn’t heard it before, to leave your brain open for its own visualization.

When I heard the vocals, I abstractly visualized the vocalist. I was way off.

I like it when people don’t look like what they sound like, it keeps you on your toes (not me, just you - I’m already on my toes quite often, cuz I’m kinda short).

Okay, I’m done now.
My brain stopped working a while back, and I'm rambling.
I’m going to sleep to the sound of rain falling.
It’s not actually raining, but my sister bought me one of those clocks that projects the time on the ceiling, and plays soothing noises. I choose rain.
Why do I think you care about this?

Let me know if any of the links don't work, so I can give them a severe talking to.

song of the moment - dark come soon

song of the moment
dark come soon
by tegan and sara

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD3Vro2gs1Q

dark, oh you can't come soon enough for me
safe, from another day of misery
everything i love get back from me now
everyone i love, i need you now

don't forget a million miles for me
safe and another day can pass by me
everything i love get back from me now
everyone i love, i need you now

(so what?)
so what, i lied
i lie to me too
(so what?)
so what, i lied
i lie to me too

hold out for the ones you know will love you
hide out from the ones you know will love you
you, you too

right to the edge and back, be there
slow to make my move, i'm almost there
everything i say, i say to me first
everything i do, i do to me first

(so what?)
so what, i lied
i lie to me too
(so what?)
so what, i lied
i lie to me too

hold out for the ones you know will love you
hide out from the ones you know will love you
you, you too

dark, oh no you can't come soon enough for me

---

I love these girls.
They’re absolutely hilarious to watch live. Not that I’ve ever had the chance to see them live, mind you, but I’m kind of a youtube addict, and have spent hours (okay, days) on end looking up clips of them. The ones that include banter are especially funny. They interact with each other on stage just like sisters do when they’re among friends. I love it.
If you have time to kill, search “tegan and sara banter.”
Unless you don’t like them.
Then don’t!
Be that way!

If the link doesn't work, please let me know, so I can fix it.

I love music!

I love music.
That’s all there is to it.
I was planning to use this post to spew some eloquently phrased insights to help you better understand this love affair, but fuck that, I haven’t had my coffee yet.
Let’s get to the music.

Oh, no, wait!
I feel the need to say (as I will also put somewhere on my profile at some point) that I have absolutely no rights or claims to any of the songs I post, or artists I mention. These are just songs or artists that I happen to like, and would like to share.

Now as I was saying:
let’s get to the music!

let me know if the links don't work

so i can give a stern talking to, or maybe even fix them
(depends on how much coffee i've had)
